Neurodiversity Celebration Week: 21-27 March

The seven-day event, Neurodiversity Celebration Week, is an initiative aiming to support neurodivergent individuals by challenging stereotypes about them and acknowledging their strengths and talents.

What is Neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity is the notion that all people have different neurocognitive abilities. Therefore, we all experience and interact with the world around us in various ways.

These neurocognitive differences can be more distinct depending on the person, which can be a strength, but it can also be hindering. Neurodivergent people experience, interact with, and understand the world in unique ways.

Neurodivergent conditions such as autism should be seen not as disabilities, but as perfectly normal neurological differences between people – which is the aim of Neurodiversity Celebration Week!

Irrespective of our differences, there is no one “right” way of being a person.

Did you know that…

  • Around 15 per cent of the UK’s population is neurodivergent (almost 1 in 7 people)
  • 15 per cent of students in the UK have a learning difference#
  • 10 per cent of people in the UK have dyslexia
  • There are at least 700,000 autistic adults in the UK
