The importance of spreading kindness this week

As Random Acts of Kindness Day approaches, which is on 17 February 2023, we’re focusing on how simple acts can have a big impact. The theme for this year is ‘make kindness the norm’ whether you are at work, school or home.

Why is kindness important?

As cliché as it is, going out of your way to help someone else makes the world a better place.

When you do something as simple as holding the door open for someone, this has a knock-on effect of bringing positivity to their day, which they can then pass on to someone else.

But did you know that being kind to others might help you live longer? According to the Mental Health Foundation, research indicates that being kind helps to improve well-being and reduce stress.

What random acts of kindness can you perform?

Being kind doesn’t have to take a lot of effort. Some simple acts of kindness you can do this week include:

· Give someone a compliment

· Offer to make someone a cup of tea or coffee

· Donate something to charity

· Set the time aside for a catch-up with friends or family

· Send a thank you note to someone

· Support a local business

· Offer your seat to someone if you travel on public transport

Small acts like these can have a big impact on someone’s day, especially if they are struggling with their mental health.

Simply taking a few minutes out of your day to help someone else can encourage them to open up.
