Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Awareness Week 2025 will be held from 28 April to 4 May and is globally observed.

The theme of the week will focus on MS conversations, which could be conversations with a family member about the condition or taking the steps to ask an employer for support.

The week aims to encourage open dialogue about Multiple Sclerosis and recognise that talking about the condition can be challenging.

Charities like the MS Society, MS Trust, and others will be sharing stories, resources, and tips to help facilitate these conversations.

What is Multiple Sclerosis?

Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic disease of the central nervous system. MS occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering of the nerves in a person’s brain and spinal cord.

MS isn’t a one size fits all condition, and affects every person differently. Some people’s symptoms get worse over time, while some have symptoms that come and go.

There is currently no cure for MS but people with the condition can live long, fulfilling lives while it can be effectively managed.

MS conversations are happening all the time and the awareness week shows that opening up about MS can be empowering.

Talking about MS, whether with family, friends, or colleagues, can be beneficial for many reasons. It helps you process your diagnosis, manage your emotions, and receive support.

It also allows others to understand how MS affects you, which can improve their understanding and offer more tailored support.
