Parent Mental Health Day 2025

The 30 January is Parent Mental Health Day (PMHD). PHMD started in 2022, to create an understanding and awareness of the family as a system, where parent and carer mental health is as important as the focus on young people’s mental health.

This year’s theme for Parent Mental Health Day is ‘screen smart parenting’, to teach and help families foster healthy digital habits.

PHMD is especially welcomed for those parents and carers looking after children with complex needs.

The causes behind parent’s/carers negative mental health

Mental health can be impacted by a number of factors, including environmental and social. With parents and carers, there is evidence that the pandemic has impacted significantly on their mental health.

Increasing severity of existing health problems, new psychological issues, and lack of access to stretched mental health services has also led to worries on how to also support their child’s or young person’s mental health.

Following on from the pandemic was the cost living crisis, which has also increased parent and carer anxiety.

Why this day matters

Parent Mental Health Day is here to bring awareness to parents and carers who are continuing to parent under unprecedented circumstances and may be struggling caring for a child with complex needs.

By getting parents, carers, and employers engaged in discussions, PMHD aims to challenge the stigmas and start a discussion of parents’ and carers’ mental health.

How we can help with mental health

One in four people will experience a mental health problem every year. For many this is in addition to a long-term health condition and for some mental health problems will become long term too.

At Synergy we work with specialists and community teams to build a care and support plan around the symptoms, needs, wishes and chosen lifestyle of each client so that we can maximise independence and quality of life.

We provide care for children with complex needs and give the support that you, your child and the rest of your family need. We make sure your child has the best opportunity to be as independent as possible and relieve the pressure of parents and carer givers.

Get in touch with our experienced team today who can help and guide you through your mental health journey.
